“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” James 1:17 ESV
It is the “gift giving” season. As humans we try to find the perfect gifts for those on our list, yet we are limited by so many factors. We are limited by our finances, our knowledge of the person, access to the perfect gift and so much more.
But God, He is an unchanging Creator, all knowing and powerful. He is not confined by the limitations we face. He gives good gifts. Perfect gifts.
We see a huge contrast in our desires and the gifts He has for us.
“But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.”
James 1:14-15 ESV
We can be so easily distracted by the shiny things in life. They entice us and lure us away from our purpose, our Creator and ultimately the abundant life He desires for us.
As we enter this holiday season with all the lovely shiny things, gift giving and more let us truly keep our eyes on the best gift giver. Remember that we are His hands and feet and the gift that we all NEED this season is the revelation of the gospel and our true need for Him in our every day lives. The truth is… We are sinners and in desperate need of a Savior. He gave His life so that we could be free from the chains of this life. What a gift!!!
