Where is He?

“Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭2:2‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Long ago the search started. The wise men searched from afar. Prophets of old anxiously awaited the promised Messiah. The question of the ages was… Where is He?

The question is still uttered out of the mouths of those who are tired, worn and confused. Where is God? Where is He when tragedy and pain are almost unbearable? Where is He when our hearts are broken and the pain so real that it’s difficult to breathe? Where is He when we have done all we can and are waiting for a way from the Waymaker?

As it was then, and as it is now we find the answer in the scriptures.

“When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭34:17-18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭145:18-19‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭17:26-28‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:14-16‬ ‭ESV‬‬

No matter what pain you are enduring in this season, rest assured that He is closer than you think. The very whisper of His name grabs His attention. He knows what you are going thru and even you if you can’t see Him, or you can’t feel Him be confident in the fact that He will not leave you or forsake you.

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.”
‭‭James‬ ‭4:8-9‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Draw near to Him. Call His name and let the peace that passes all understanding begin to fill your situation.

Jesus, Forgive me for my doubt and cleanse my heart. I turn to you and you alone as my source of strength, comfort and confidence. Move in my situation. If it is not your will for my storm to cease, please hold me! I turn to your word and accept grace and mercy to help me in this time of need. Amen
