“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;” Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 ESV
It is late March, and while some parts of the country are enjoying new blossoms and warmer temperatures, we are still waiting for snow to melt. I visited family up North and they have even more snow waiting to melt, like 10ft drift snow. Still, even in that much snow you can feel and hear signs of Spring. Birds are chirping and pools of melted snow are puddling.
As we drove through a beautiful winter wonderland of frost covered trees I thought about the miracle of Spring. Beneath the snow something miraculous is taking place. New life is beginning to form and soon Spring will be in full bloom. Although, we can’t see these things happening, we know they are because we trust the seasons. Spring will come, no matter how long and hard winter has been and eventually the blossoms of Spring will turn into the heat of Summer. We trust that and have calendars to prove it.
The Bible says to everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven. Just as in the natural there are seasons in our spiritual life. The tricky part is that we can’t always gauge the seasons with our eyes or a calendar. We have to wait. And so we wait.
I have written blogs about, “What are you doing during your delay” and “Not being weary,” so you can look back on those for more inspiration during your wait, but today I want to just focus on the beauty of the change. Sometimes the darkest night is broken by the most beautiful sunrise. I am so done with winter, but as we drove I marveled at the beauty of this season that is almost over.
Whatever season you are in right now, take time to reflect on the beauty and growth that it gave you. Take time to breath in the lessons and hardships, the beauty and the pain. For soon another season will take its place, new lessons, new dreams, new mistakes and the cycle will start over again.
