Abide in Me

“ I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”

John‬ ‭15:5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

As Christians we are called to bear fruit. These verses in John do not specify the type of fruit we are called to bear, but in any case the call the bear fruit can be daunting. As I studied this verse in particular it gives a picture of something less daunting and so hopeful.

The scripture says, “Every branch that does not bear fruit he takes away.” Yikes. But as you read along the verses also say to “Abide in me.” I looked the word abide up and one of the many definition was “to be held.”

What a story of love. God does not call us to be alone. The Word says, let me hold you. Let me carry you and from that relationship fruit will naturally be produced. The scripture goes on to say that he who is held by me will bear much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

Today, as you seek to bear fruit in your life cling to Him. Let him carry you. Through that relationship of trust whatever fruit He is desiring in your life will begin to flourish. Is it Patience? New Disciples? Greater love for the lost? Whatever fruit you desire to develop in your life will only come to pass through a deeper relationship with him.

Lord, I want to be more like you! I want to bear the things in my life that please you. Teach me to abide in you.
