Sacrifice

“But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:11-12‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Our world today is far removed from the world of sacrifice in the Old Testament. Their sacrifice was tangible and truly defined the word sacrifice. Some would raise their sacrifice from infancy. They would feed, care for, shelter and then ultimately release their investment to the priest for their yearly sacrifice.

“But when Christ came….” everything changed. While we are still required to offer our lives as a sacrifice when Jesus came on the scene it changed sacrifices forever. Without His precious blood we would have no sacrifice. We did nothing to earn it. We did not put in time or effort to raise the sacrifice, yet he came. Without his blood we have no access to the Holy Place. Without the shedding of his blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

It is hard to comprehend in a world that rarely sacrifices that something had to die for me to gain access to forgiveness and freedom, but He did. He was my sacrifice so I could be free.

Lord, let me never take for granted the sacrifice You gave to be my freedom! Through your blood you secured eternal redemption and freedom from sin. Let my life reflect my gratitude for your sacrifice.
