There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”
1 John 4:18 KJV
We have all probably heard the saying, “Let your faith be bigger than your fear.” I think I may have even written something on the topic, but as I meandered around town doing my errands a different thought came to me.
God is love…Perfect love casteth out all fear…Greater love hath no man…For God so loved the world… Love thy neighbor as thyself…
These catchy and common scriptures began floating around my thoughts. My husband and I were having a conversation about the current climate in our country. Not the heat index, but the degree of raw emotion that has been on display.
It seems as if there are lines being drawn and divisions being made. These divisions are not bringing about peace and love, but the opposite fear and hate.
As I meandered around my quiet little town doing errands I encountered many people. I quietly smiled or sometimes made a passing remark about the weather. None of my conversations went any deeper than generic remarks. True , I didn’t know any of these people. Most I had never seen, but God knows them. God created them. God loves them and he is reaching for them.
What our world really needs is love. Gods love, through the funnel of his people. If we truly love God, and he truly loves all people, we should be expressing that love to our world.
It convicted me. To have contact with people, but them never knowing I have contact with God. Oh, how my world would change if I loved people more like God did. If I took every opportunity to share his love rather than complete my “to-do” list.
In all honesty, sometimes it’s scary. Most times it is hard to step out and begin to share about Jesus to a complete stranger or even a coworker. Today, I want to challenge myself, “let my love be bigger than my fear!!” Remember how much He paid so that I could experience that love. Remember, that his love is not meant to be bottled up on a shelf to look pretty, but shared. His love is powerful. His love is the change we need in our world. Today we need to ask ourselves, Is my love like His love? Is my love bigger than my fear?
