“When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” Exodus 32:1 ESV
The people of Israel often get a bad rap because of their impatience. They were not good at waiting. The scripture above says, when the people saw that Moses was delayed… they started making new plans. I can sit here and “preach” about how ridiculous they were. They had seen so many miracles, been brought through so many trials and now a delay causes them to look for a new plan. I, also have to admit to the same folly at times.
How many times has God delayed a promise or put me through a new season and instead of growing or waiting I begin making my own plans. Truth is we all go through delays. Physically, we have trains or traffic. We are put on hold while making phone calls. Those are physical delays, but in the spiritual we have those same delays. Some last moments. Some last years. The question is what do we do during the delay? The Israelites decided to build a golden calf.
The question we must ask ourselves “is what do we do in our delay?”I’m not necessarily talking just about what you do in the Walmart checkout isle or when a train passes by, but even those moments can be vital. Our physical delays can be made into spiritual moments just as well as the spiritual delays from God can be used for growth and strengthening.
Today, whatever kind of delay you are going thru, stay awake for it. Be aware that God is the author of our moments and he may have prepared this mundane moment of delay for something miraculous.
