Look up

“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.”

Psalms‬ ‭121:1-8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

My son was in his second year of swimming lessons. Although, he was progressing he still had a ways to go until he felt comfortable in the water. We watched him practice from an upper room through a large glass window. While completing one of his exercises his teacher gave him a little more independence than in his comfort range. She was close enough for safety, but he began to struggle and looked up toward the window. My husband and I immediately smiled and gave thumbs up. He gave a reluctant smile and kept on swimming toward his destination. When he reached his goal he once again looked up, we gave a thumbs up and we all smiled. I thought about that instance and how different it could have been if when he looked up for reassurance we would have been gone or if we would have given him looks of fear rather than encouragement.

I love how the scripture above says He who keeps you will not slumber. At times I may not be present to give the encouragement that my son needs when going through a trial, but we have a God who is ever present. He does not slumber. No matter how deep the waves, or how far we have until we reach our goal, he is there giving us encouragement and direction. All we have to do is look up. Look to his Word. Dig out the promises that relate to your circumstance. It is so easy to be distracted by what we see. We can easily loose hope when we take into account the reality of our situations, but we have a God who does the impossible. We have a God who will keep us! Just look up!

Today, no matter your situation, look up! Although, He may not stop the storm He will give you strength and peace to endure. Look up!
