“But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.”
Genesis 50:19-20 ESV
The account of Joseph’s life always intrigues me. It all started with dreams and from there went on an amazing roller coaster of emotions, trials and triumphs. As I look at his story it is so easy to take the scripture above and have a praise dance. “God meant it for good…” Although, if I had been in the same pit as Joseph I do not know if I would have been dancing. If I were in the same jail cell as Joseph I do not know if I would have claimed the dreams that I had dreamt so long ago.
The old saying “hind sight is 20/20” is tailored fit for this story. Joseph couldn’t see what the next turn on the roller coaster would be, but he knew he had a promise. We never see Joseph give up. He consistently acted like his dreams were being fulfilled whether in a pit, prison or a palace. That attitude is how he got out of the prison, into Pharaohs house and ultimately how he was able to save his family.
It’s so easy in the middle of all the muck of life to forget the promises and the dreams that were given to us. My prayer for you today is that those dreams are brought back to life.
Remember them. Dwell on them. Take time to look back and see how far he has brought you, even if you are not at your destination.
Whatever evil or just life is thrown at you today, remember that God can use it for good. If he gave you a promise he is designing a masterpiece and at the end you will be able to say to the naysayers and the unbelievers that what was meant for evil, God meant for good.
