“For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.”
2 Peter 1:5-8, 10 ESV
I love this promise. I have it taped into my cupboard in my kitchen as a constant reminder. If I can para phrase it in “Bethany.”
“Make every effort to add to your faith virtue, knowledge, self control, love, steadfastness, godliness and brotherly affection… for these qualities will keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful and if you practice them you will never fall.”
That is a steep promise. Not only do practicing these keep us from falling, but also keep us fruitful, which should be the ultimate desire for any Christian. All of these attributes deny our flesh and point toward our Savior.
Lord, let me seek to be like you. Let me seek your likeness and your heart. More of you and less of me is the only way I can truly impact the world around me as you desire.
