My dwelling place shall be with them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”
Ezekiel 37:27 ESV
As I read this verse the phrase “my people” ran over and over in my head. I am a semi outgoing person, but I am most comfortable and at ease when I am with “my people.” I love to be around my peeps or as the younger generation would say “my squad.” These are the people I truly trust, I can confid in, the people I call when I have a major event in my life or I find a great deal at the store. My people.
Scattered throughout the Old Testamnet we find this phrase in relation to God looking for “His people.” Over and over again the Israelites betrayed Him and followed after other Gods. Then we come to the New Testament.
“As indeed he says in Hosea, “Those who were not my people I will call ‘my people,’ and her who was not beloved I will call ‘beloved.’
Romans 9:25 ESV
God manifest himself in flesh and was born as a babe, rejected by most then rose again, all in search of His people. A people whom he could trust, a people who would love him and serve him, a people who would have a deep relationship with him.
When I think that God of all creation went through all of that just to have me on His “squad” I am humbled and honored. He wants me to be “his people.” He wants me to be in his inner circle of friends and confidants. He wants a true relationship with me! He wants a relationship with you!
Today, ponder the lengths he went through to have that relationship. Lay aside the things that hinder your closeness. In the end nothing else matters, and He is definitely someone you want on your “squad.”
