“TEKEL, you have been weighed in the balances and found wanting;”
Daniel 5:27 ESV
In our little mall there is a nutrition store. Outside the store stands a little scale. This scale supposibly can check your BMI and other health/weight related things. The scale must be on a sensor because as people leisurely walk by the scale questions abruptly “Have you checked your weight today?”
In the story from the above scripture a miraculous thing happened. The King had prepared a great feast for a grand idolatrous party. As they sipped wine they had taken from the temple the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the wall. Then started the search for someone who could read the mysterious message.
One part of the message that Daniel interpreted stated; “TEKEL, you have been weighed in the balances and found wanting.” The New Living Translation says it this way, -you have been weighed on the balances and have not measured up.
As I read this passage this morning, I thought wouldn’t it be interesting if we had a spiritual scale. What would have shown on my scale this morning? Would it show balance in my life or would it show a heavy lean to the things of this world. When I am weighed in His balances what is found?
Lord, search me, cleanse me, forgive me. Refill me with your purpose, your thoughts and ways. So that when I am weighed in your balances I may not be found wanting.
