“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”Matthew 5:6 ESV
It’s that time of year again. The time of year where all things pumpkin start to emerge. Pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin pop tarts and pumpkin donuts. Pinterest pages are filled with the best all things pumpkin recipes. It sucks me in every year. I start seeing the recipes in my social media feeds and I am hooked. The crazy part is when I take that first bite of the decadent pumpkin creation I am often disappointed.
The world has done a fabulous job at marketing the feeling of fall, making millions crave that first sip of a pumpkin spice latte and the first nibble of a pumpkin donut. The marketing world has succeeded in this by exploiting our human tendency to crave. To crave is simply defined as something we long for, want greatly or desire eagerly.
What do you crave? What do you desire eagerly? In a world that has a million menu options what do we chose to fill your belly with? Entertainment satisfies momentarily, but leaves you wanting more and more. Relationships, without Jesus as the center, always end up leaving you empty and drained. Careers can give monetary peace for a moment and stroke one’s ego, but at the top of the corporate ladder one only finds loneliness and discontentment. All the world has to offer, all the things we crave, will only leave us empty and wanting more. Seeking Him and his righteousness is the only thing that will truly satisfy.
Lord, today let me hunger for you! Let me seek you first. Let me crave your Word and time spent alone with you. Let my hunger for you be contagious and evident to those around me.
