Useless

“I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me.”‭‭Psalms‬ ‭101:3‬ ‭ESV‬

Growing up I always thought of this scripture as a warning against watching bad movies or television shows. The KJV version says “I will set no evil thing before my eyes.” Today as I read this it takes a whole new meaning. In our world there are so many more options to place in front of our eyes. The ESV says I will not put anything worthless before my eyes.

  • Worthless: useless, unproductive, of no use, importance or value

Sadly, as I write this blog on my cell phone I have to honestly say there are quite a few “apps” that would fit in that category. It’s so amazing  how the Bible that was written so long ago continues to be relevant and even before it’s time. In the 1900’s the options of evil or useless things to set before your eyes were very limited. Now, with cell phones and internet we literally have access to any type of mindless, useless entertainment at a simple touch of a finger.

The good news is that with that option to all the negative things to place in front of our eyes we also have access to amazing resources. YouTube and podcasts are full of uplifting, inspiring videos and sermons. There are thousands of amazing Christian authors. Just as much as there is “evil” we have an option for uplifting.

Today, chose wisely. Take that scripture to heart. “I will put no unproductive, useless thing before my eyes.”
