"From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
Psalms 61:2 KJV
A few weeks ago my family and I went in search of a little secluded swimming spot. I live near a river so we have long shorelines, but most of it is covered in bushes, weeds and other things I do not care to walk next to. But every so often you can find a bit of open shoreline with a small patch of sand. We found one. It seemed perfect. Secluded, water only gradually got deeper and lots of shoreline for the kids to play. We unpacked and settled in. As I walked out into the water I found our little spots drawback. It was incredibly rocky. Like cut your feet and want to cry rocky. My boys and I spent much of the time on the "beach" area throwing rocks into the river. Toward the end of the afternoon I braced myself for some pain and waded in. I was pleasantly surprised to find that amidst the jagged little rocks that layered the riverbed you could find large rocks that were smooth enough to stand on. I would maneuver through the water and find a "safe" rock giving my feet rest and enjoy the scenery and cool water. Only when I stood on the large rock did I have comfort.
As I read this scripture this morning that story came to my mind. What a blessing we have in God our Rock. This life can be hard to navigate at times. Trials, whether by or own making or just life can make one weary and looking for refuge. He is that refuge. He is that resting spot when life makes us weary. The scripture says, "when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the Rock." In a world where so many things can overwhelm us we are so blessed to have a Rock!
Ps. Those are photos of the actual shoreline.
