Perfect in Weakness

“And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”‭‭

II Corinthians‬ ‭12:9-10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I love taking personality tests. I have been somewhat obsessive about them over the past couple days. I have sent links to some friends and have a notepad with all the results. I find it so interesting to see what personality mixes are in my small friend group. My husband and I are complete opposites. His highest scores are my lowest and my lowest his highest.  We are truly the cliche of opposites attract.

  • Talks too much
  • Undisciplined
  • Mouth can get them into trouble
  • Forgetful

Unfortunately, those are a few of the weaknesses of my particular personality trait. Even more unfortunate is that the test is quite accurate and these are areas in my life that I am continually needing Jesus to help me with.

In Corinthians, Paul was writing about his own struggles, but then writes that beautiful passage which says, “He said to me…my grace is sufficent to you…my strength is made perfect in weakness.”

After all my obsessing over personalities and in particular my flaws I am overcome with emotion and awe over this scripture. My weaknesses are what He wants, for it is only thru my weaknesses that I am made strong. Only when I bring my flawed self to Him can He turn something broken into something beautiful and He be glorified in the process. He doesn’t really care about my list of strengths, because when I solely rely on my own strengths I no longer lean on him.  But when I come to him with my list of weaknesses he says, “Now, this is something I can work with!!”

All through the Bible we find “flawed” humans who God used for miraculous purposes. David the Shepard boy is a perfect example of what humans look at as weaknesses, but God sees as strength. Humans looked at the muscles, the height and  all the “manliness” of Davids brothers , but God looked passed all that and focused on a humble spirit and a servants heart.

Maybe for fun today, take one of those personality tests. A quick google search can tell you if you are sanguine or gold or a penguin 🙂 And as you look at the lists of strengths and weaknesses remember that we are made strong only by God in those weaknesses. Let God turn those weaknesses into strengths.  His kingdom needs all of YOU!

PS. If you find a test comment with your personality type. I would love to see all the different types of people who visit this blog.
