“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
John 10:10 ESV
I do not like pumping gas. Where I live it is usually too hot, too cold or too windy thus making pumping gas a real chore. One of the many blessings of being married is that my husband usually pumps the gas for me. When left up to me I wait until the very last drop before I fill up. Sometimes I am not good at guaging when the last drop is as I have on multiple occasions run out of gas. I could be a AAA spokesperson as they have gotten me out of a few jams all due to my habit of running on empty.
As I chuckled at myself today because once again my vehicle was quite low in fuel I thought about how running on empty can seep into our spiritual life. We have a miraculous power source. The book of Acts says that we “shall receive power” when the Holy Ghost has come upon us. Yet, how many times do I run dangerously low? Low on patience, low on self-control, low on peace. I have access to an unlimited flow of power and still find myself waiting to fill up. Whether it’s waiting for Wednesday or waiting for the altar call living on empty is never what God intended.
When I read scriptures like John 10:10 that say that he “came that we may have life and have it more abundantly” and John 15:11 “that our joy may be full.” I believe these are Gods true plans for his people.
Lord, today let me live in all that you designed for me. Let me walk in peace, joy and love so that I may share the wonderful gifts that you have given me.
PS. After posting I recalled that a few weeks ago I wrote a post called “Empty and Willing.” It is so important to know what we are filled with. Filling my life with my own selfish desires and passions with inevitably leave me empty, but not empty in a place where God can use me. I need to be FULL of Him and EMPTY of all of my own flesh.
