“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8 ESV
In a world where drama sells and sex sells even more, we have a lot of things that try to divert our attention. The scripture says to think on whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely and commendable. Whatever is Jesus!!! Although this world is full of the opposite, there are still so many beautiful, godly things to fill our thoughts. If we can put aside “those things” and begin to think on “these things” our perceptions will change.
I imagine God walking down an aisle with us. Much like when I take my children to the store and they want to fill my cart with marshmallows and toys. Everytime we try and gravitate toward those thoughts he gently nudges ” no, think on these things.” When we meditate on things of God not only does our perception change, but we then have the ability to effect the perception of those around us.
What am I thinking about? Am I filling my thoughts with truth and Jesus? Am I appreciating all of the beauty that he has created for us? The beautiful sunsets, rolling hills and rhythmic oceans. The chubby cheeks of a toddler. The peppy sounds of the birds chirping in the morning. God has blessed us abundantly with so many beautiful things to fill our minds.
Lord, today and everyday let me think on THESE THINGS!! Let me be constantly aware of the blessings that you have so graciously bestowed on my life.
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” Psalms 19:14 ESV
