“But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.”
James 1:14-15 ESV
Wow! These verses are loaded with such truth. We are lured and enticed by our own desires. Although, Satan is roaming to and fro seeking who he may devour, it is OUR desires that we must keep in check. Verse 15 says that desire equals sin and sin when fully grown equals death!! We must desire HIS kingdom. Following our flesh will always result in death. A very popular trend in our current culture is to find yourself. T-shirts, pillows and media urge people to “Be yourself!” “Find yourself” “Let it go!” Whenever I see, hear or read these statments I have an echo of the Word in my spirit that says
“For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. Romans 7:18”
Every good thing is from him!! ( James 1:17) If I want to do good or be good I must not “find myself” but rather completely lose myself and have an encounter with a life-changing God!
Lord, let my dreams and desires be to build your kingdom not my own. Let me be constantly reminded that the only good in me is you and that I must die daily in order for you to reign in my life.
